Lumina's Heart is the latest inspirational offering from Bay Area and Electric Angel harpist Lynne Reardon. Unlike many harp albums that are usually enjoyed as "background music," Lumina's Heart is a series of thought-provoking journeys into the nature of life, love, and purpose. Underneath the pleasant and peaceful veneer, it is a thoughtful and provocative work, and will command your full attention.

Lynne Reardon plays an electric harp on most of the tracks, bringing in the familiar sounds of the Celtic harp with a touch of otherworldly electronica. Electric guitar, electrolyre, drums and background vocals, along with Lynne's sultry voice, blend to create an experience that captures the attention from first note to last.

Each song tells a story. Heart begins with a journey into the "Labyrinth," and moves through love, life, and even the environment - yet the message is never harsh or strident. Sometimes Heart is sad or even angry, but there is always a ray of hope underneath.

The instrumentals are equal to the songs, keeping with the theme and painting vivid wordless pictures of their own. The soft droning chord of the windharp and the breathy tones of the wooden flute in "The Last Owl" really bring the listener into the woods to hear the eerie calls of the birds.

The final few tracks are full of good feeling, with "Give Yourself to Love" and "Gather the Women" standing out as particularly moving. The album ends with "Sharon's Song," a revelatory piece that seems almost traditional by comparison to the rest of album, with acoustic harp and flute accompaniment.

Other instruments on the tracks include electric bass, percussion, and background vocals, and they only add to the smooth quality of the music. Heart will be most enjoyed by fans of new age music, but jazz and soft rock lovers will also find much to like. Heart is a fusion of old Celtic and new electric, in a blend that only Ms. Reardon could create. It's pure harmony, and a strong effort.
